2007 Top Film Festivals
A film festival is a cinematic festival that is typically annual and features films that may be independently made, produced during the previous year and sometimes has a specific focus such as a genre or subject. There are film festivals that occur all over the world.
New York International Independent Film and Video Festival
The NYIIFVF is the largest film festival in the world. Founded in 1993, it has quickly gained recognition in the film entertainment industry as a leading film event in the independent festival track. It hosts film, art and music events in New York as well as Los Angeles. In 2007, the New York festival will be held on July 19 - 26 and in Los Angeles in September.
Tribeca Film Festival
The Tribeca Film Festival, founded by Robert De Niro, Jane Rosenthal and Craig Hatkoff in 2002, was a movement that was a method of responding to the attacks on the World Trade Center. It was created to boost the cultural and economic rebuilding in the Lower Manhattan area. The sixth annual Tribeca Film Festival in 2007 is running from April 25, to May 6.
Rome International Film Festival
The Rome International Film Festival works to showcase films and filmmakers worldwide. This nonprofit organization has a mission to share the art of independent film. The Rome International Film Festival will run from September 6 - 9, 2007.
Cannes Film Festival
This marks 60 years that the Cannes Film Festival has been setting the standard for the film industry. It is probably the best known and most famous film festival in the world. It is often used as a catalyst to promote new talent and defining the cinematic arts for the entire world. In 2007, the Festival de Cannes will be help from May 16 - 27. The awards ceremony, held on May 27, will announce the winners. The website will announce the simultaneously.
Berlin Film Festival
This two week festival that features more than 19,000 film professionals who hail from 120 countries. The Berlinale, or Berlin Film Festival is a huge event on many levels from discussion, media and art to glamour, parties and business. If you are in the film business in any capacity, this is a great place to network. The next Internationale Filmsestsiele Berlin will be held from February 7 - 17, 2008.
Sundance Film Festival
The Sundance Film Festival was founded by Robert Redford in 1981 in Sundance, Utah. Over the years it has grown to become a recognized resource on an international level for literally thousands of artists. Sundance recognizes filmmakers, screenwriters, composers, writers, playwrights and theatre artists. In 2007 the Sundance Film Festival was held on January 18 - 28.
There are actually quite a few film festivals, these are just the top few. You can also find these festivals on websites or through networks. The festivals are in exotic locations such as New York and Cannes, but, you never know, there may even be one near you.
